Scope and Contents
The Frohsinn Singing Society (La Crosse, Wis.) collection contains a variety of mixed materials including the society's constitution from 1897; a series of written histories including a scrapbook, various newspaper clippings regarding the society, a program and invitaion relating to the centennial celebration in 1985, and the 50th anniversary edition of the Nordstern newspaper from April 10, 1908; a collection of minutes [Protokoll] ranging from 1903-1995; the society's financial records [Ausgaben und Einnahmen] from 1887-1993; 21 photographs of members and events, including a 1907 group photo, picnic photos from circa 1900, 1925, and 1953, various members from 1956 and 1968, and parade photos from 1968 and 1970; various sheet music; realia, including a gavel gifted to the society's president, John B. Malin on Feb. 16, 1898, an official Frohsinn Society stamp, a plaque awarded to the society on their 100th anniversary in Jan. 1985, and a gold plate awarded to the society for their 100th anniversary by the WIsconsin Saengerbezirk; a series of regional singing festival programs [Saengerfest, Saengerbund] from 1885-1981, including an edition of the 1908 singing festival newspaper [Saenger Zeitung]; and lastly a Volksverbandes der Buecherfreunde book dated 1924 containing a collection of stories and articles by German authors.
All materials are in German, with the exception of some of the written histories: some newspaper clippings and scrapbook pages are in English.
