Historical Note

The Bergh Piano Company was located at the corner of Jay and Fourth Streets in downtown La Crosse (205-207 South Fourth Street). It was in business at this location from 1905-1922. Thomas T. Bergh was the President and Manager of the company, and is listed in one of the photographs. Herbert Deters was a salesman for Bergh Piano and is also listed in one photograph.

The Bergh Automobile Company was located at 328 South Fifth Street. It was also owned by Thomas T. Bergh. According to City Directories, Thomas T. Bergh sold automobiles at this garage from 1913-1922. In the 1924 City Directory, the Bergh Auto Company is listed under the ownership of Thomas O. Bergh and located at 408-410 South Fourth Street. Ewald Deters, a bookkeepter for Bergh, is in a photograph with Thomas T. Bergh.

Riverside Park was completed in 1912, only a few years before the photographs in this collection. Each photograph shows people using the park, though none are identified.

Abstract

This collection contains digital photographs of the Bergh Piano Company, the Bergh Automobile Company, the North Side Military Band, and Riverside Park around the years 1915-1920. The identified people in the collection are Thomas T. Bergh, Herbert Deters, and Ewald Deters, though there are other individuals.
