Historical Note
The Botanical Club of Wisconsin was organized in May 1968 under the sponsorship of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. Its aims are to stimulate and further interest in Wisconsin plants and plant life, to encourage ecological literacy and provide activites for both amateur and professional botantists.
On April 13, 1978, nine botantists met to discuss forming a local, La Crosse chapter of the Botanical Club of Wisconsin. The founding group's main goal was to further their interests in local plants and to pass that information on to interested members by way of field trips and informal seminars. The group also sought to catalog La Crosse County and driftless area plants. The group became the Alvin and Mae Peterson Chapter of the Botanical Club of Wisconsin in 1978.
