Historical Note
North La Crosse was home to the sawmills built in the 1850s and the people who depended upon the pineries for their livelihood made their homes there. The sawmills were owned by residences of La Crosse to their south. The Village of North La Crosse was incorporated by the Wisconsin legislature March 4, 1868, and annexed into the City of La Crosse as the Fifth Ward March 22, 1871, adding approximately 1494 persons to the population of the city of La Crosse.
