Wisconsin Labor Advocate
Abstract
This African American newspaper was published in la Crosse from 1886-1888 by George Edwin Taylor, the first Black person to run for office of the president of the United States on the National Negro Liberty Party ticket. Taylor lived in La Crosse, Wisconsin, from 1865 to 1891 when he left to publish a weekley newspaper the Negro Solicitor in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
The Wisconsin Labor Advocate claimed to be the voice of the Knights of Labor, the La Crosse County Workingmen's Party and the Wisconsin State People's Party, also known as the Wisconsin Union Labor Party.
The La Crosse Public Library holds a photocopy of this title and does not own the originals. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Murphy Library, Special Collections Department hold the originals as of this writing (2017).

(Accession no. 2017.137) The original copies of this newspaper were owned by the La Crosse Public Library. It was sent to the Wisconsin Historical Society for microfilming and a set of photocopies made for public use courtesy of Bruce Mouser of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
