Friedrich L. Strauss Papers
Scope and Contents
The main body of the collection is an assortment of papers that were part of Strauss’s personal business dealings. Included are orders, receipts, and correspondence between Strauss and others. Each folder contains papers from each business he dealt with; they are arranged alphabetically by the same names.
The collection also includes a number of photographs – some of the Strauss family. Few of the pictures have been identified and are grouped into the last folder of the collection.

Biographical Note
Friedrich “Fred” L. Strauss was born in Stolp Mansow, Germany, in 1842. He lived in La Crosse from 1881 until his death in 1916. He was employed for many years at the Voight and Ritter wagon works. He was married and had four children.

Abstract
Friedrich “Fred” L. Strauss lived in La Crosse from 1881 until his death in 1916. He was employed for many years at the Voight and Ritter wagon works.
Papers include orders, receipts, and correspondence between Strauss and others. All are related to his personal business dealings. A collection of family photographs is also found in the collection. Most of the photographs are unidentified other than coming from Friedrich Strauss.

Separated Materials
Seven glass slides were separated out and sent to Murphy Library, UW-La Crosse. They were not photographic but were written on in some kind of ink that was barely legible.
