Scope and Contents

The photographs (2003-2004) show the construction of the new Mississippi River Bridge, which was built next to the Cass Street Bridge in downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. There are also photographs of the dedicatory ceremonies that took place Nov. 17, 2004.

There are 19 sets (each in its own folder) of 4”x6” glossy prints. The sets are in chronological order with the earliest photographs in folder one. Most were taken with film while some were taken digitally. The negatives and digital images are not part of the collection and remain in the possession of John Zoerb.

Biographical Note

John Zoerb, a La Crosse resident, is the son of John “Hans” Zoerb and Isabella (Berck) Zoerb. As a horticulturalist, Zoerb worked for fifty-three years at La Crosse Floral and served as president of the company. He was also known as “Dr. Green Thumb” because of his appearances on WLCX’s radio show “Party Line.” Zoerb also served as a resource for La Crosse County’s Poison Control Center. He is a well-known local photographer, and has been a member of the La Crosse Camera Club since 1946. Zoerb has taken photographs of Oktoberfest and Riverfest for the past thirty years. Beginning in 2003, Zoerb spent a year photographing the construction of the new Mississippi River Bridge in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He had special permission to access areas during construction.

He is a well-known local photographer, and has been a member of the La Crosse Camera Club since 1946. Beginning in 2003, Zoerb spent a year photographing the construction of the new Mississippi River Bridge in downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin.

There are 19 sets (each in its own folder) of 4”x6” glossy prints showing the construction of the new Mississippi River Bridge and its dedication ceremonies. Most images were taken with 35mm film while some were taken digitally. The negatives and digital images are not part of the collection and remain in the possession of John Zoerb.
