Scope and Contents Personal Materials include copies of awards, campaign materials (1955-1974), correspondence (1955-1965), photographs (circa 1960s-1970s) and speeches undated; 1946; 1950-1975). Gysbert van Steenwyk, Sr. (1814-1902), who founded the Batavian Bank in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and was active in state and local politics. Van Steenwyk, a Dutch immigrant, served a term in 1873 as mayor of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and also served in the Wisconsin state legislature as assemblyman in 1859 and senator 1879-1880. Abstract Wendell Abraham Anderson (1840-1929) was born in Gray, Maine. He received a medical degree in 1863, served in the Civil War, and moved to La Crosse in 1866, to set up a medical practice. He became involved in public service and politics.
